What's the best tablet to get for a small business?

  1. I've been researching this question since sunrise today, and it's now well past bed-time! I went from never using a tablet yesterday to being well informed today.

I have narrowed my decision between Toshiba's Thrive, or Asus Transformer Pad TF300 as being the best for either a business person or a student.

So far I have determined that Toshiba's Thrive Tablet is praised as being the only excellent tablet for non-entertainment/media purposes. Thrive is less than a year old and runs off of Andoid Honeycomb OS. Just now, there is a new Android operating system called Ice Cream Sandwich that is replacing Honeycomb, and Thrive is supposed to be upgradable to the new OS soon. The reviews for this model are outstanding and everyone claims that it exceeds their needs. A downside to Thrive is that, apparently, it does not translate spoken words into written text. While there are apps that claim to do that, I read one review that said it was not compatible with Thrive's external microphone. That is a huge con for me because I am both a student and a business person and It would greatly help me save some wrist pain & time by being able to have the tablet create written words for every spoken word that I speak. Asus' Transformer Pad is apparently the only tablet, aside from Ipad, that has the voice-notes options. It too, is a highly praised Tablet!

Asus is paving the way for non-Ipad tablets and setting the bar high! Many students recommend the Asus Transformer Pad for it's non-media capabilities. I am considering buying Asus transformer Pad TF300 because it has the new quad-core processor.

Both Asus Transformer and Toshiba Thrive are among the elite few tablets will allow an external device, such as a USB or micro sd card to be utilized. iPad does not offer this function.

I'm trying to decide on an excellent tablet to invest in to replace my paper work needs and to stay organized. It will be a tough choice between Thrive 32 GB for $418-$478, and the Asus Transformer TF300 32 GB for $399.

One final and important thing to take into consideration is the size of the device. Both models offer 10", but only Thrive offers a 7" model. While most people automatically dismiss the 7" because they assume that it is inferior, I believe that the 7" tablet comes with it's own advantages such as the ease with which one can hold the smaller and light-weight device in the palm of their hand. The benefit of a 10" device would include the ability to view and create full size documents. Also, you can possibly create contracts on your tablet and have clients sign the contract on the tablet with a tablet-specific pen (if that's legal and binding?!).

Weight is an important factor. Asus Transformer Pad TF300 weighs 1.4 lb, whereas the 7" Thrive weighs 13.3 oz, and the 10" thrive weighs 1.6 lb.

So many choices, and more to come being that this is a transitional moment and many new tablets are coming out in the next few months.

I hope I make the right choice! I hope you do too!

  2. Well I took your advice into account and I studied online about all the different tablets. I went to bestbuy.com and they have a great comparison chart of all their products. I did that for all the tablets.
I chose to buy the Acer Iconia W500. I really like how the touch screen and the keyboard connect to one another. I need a lot of memory, which the Acer doesn't have a whole lot but some.
The biggest decision maker was that it had Windows 7. I use Quickbooks and I definately needed Windows 7 compatbility.
    Thank you for your help!
